With the despatch of that letter our duties under
your commission appeared to terminate.
The end of the matter is that you are committed
to contribute £200 monthly to the Royal Flying Corps
Hospital, in return for which the Committee have undertaken
that the name "Hongkong Ward", at present appearing on the
outside of the door of one of the wards at No. 37 Bryanston
Square, will not be removed.
We regret that there should be so poor an
acknowledgement for so handsome a contribution but we think
you will agree that in the circumstances it was not easy
either to press or to appeal for more, and we even venture
to hope that the difficulties of the position in which we
found ourselves will serve at once to explain and to
extenuate results so far removed from the expectations
reasonably entertained at the outset of the negotiations
which have now been concluded.
Yours faithfully,
